How Red-Carpet Earrings Go From Sketch to Blueprint to Diamond

28 0

You or I might go and pick a piece of jewelry out from a velvet-lined display case (or click through page after page online). But if you’re Elisabeth Moss and it’s the Emmys, your super stylist Karla Welch takes an idea that’s in her head and makes it reality.

The actress accessorized her light pink Prabal Gurung gown with Forevermark Custom by Karla Welch two-stone diamond bar earrings—8.92 carats—in rose-toned platinum (plus a diamond-and-platinum ring that rang in at 11.03 carats, but who’s counting?). Different than your classic drops, Welch told the earrings were “a last-minute idea. We wanted classic, but sort of punk. I contacted Forevermark to see if they could make them, and voila.”

Welch said that when it comes to mixing her expert POV with that of her star client, there’s no secret equation. “We have a quick chat and just go for it, although I’m generally texting quite a bit.”

Something we wonder might have made her iMessages? A rough sketch of the earrings Moss wore tonight. While there’s no read receipt to confirm the actress ever saw the beginnings, the drawing definitely made its way to Forevermark, who then turned it into a CAD (computer-aided design) before crafting the actual showstoppers.
