Amanda says: “The minimalist silhouettes and soft tailoring are, of course, beautiful, but what makes the brand even better is that everything is made in New York from textiles that have been handwoven by artisans from around the world.”

Fanm Mon

Designer: Sophia Demirtas

Home base: Fethiye, Turkey

The look: Breezy, A-line frocks elevated by colorful Eastern European embroidery. It was the NYC native’s move to Turkey that inspired her to formally delve into design.

Amanda says: “I love how Sophia has updated simple shapes with playful embroidered motifs that can be customized through Maison-de-Mode.com. The dresses also make perfect beachwear.”

Nomadic Collector

Designer: Stefani De La O

Home base: San José, Costa Rica

The look: Sleek accessories, such as high-gloss cocobolo minaudières that hark back to De La O’s training in architecture and industrial design.

Amanda says: “Among the bags, which are made from carbon-neutral leather and reforested wood, my favorite would have to be the All Tied Up clutch.”

Nosouj

Designer: Basma Abdul Hadi

Home base: Amman

The look: Cheerful, pom-pom–accented totes and pouches. Abdul Hadi’s quest to preserve traditional crafts while creating a luxury product earned her brand Positive Luxury’s prestigious Butterfly Mark for sustainability (Givenchy and Loewe are past recipients).

Amanda says: “All the bags are made by artisans in a small Turkish village using recycled materials, so no two are alike.”
